I went for a ride last week and my brakes were squeaking like crazy so I finally decided it was time to replace them. With the sound they were making I was expecting to see nothing left on the pads but there was still material. any recommendations on what to get for a replacement? I ride trails a couple times a week, nothing crazy.

Can’t tell which brakes those are by looking at the pads, but I’d recommend an organic/non-metallic based pad. These tend to be quieter. Clean rotors and pads with isopropyl alcohol before installing.

I don’t even remember what pads I have on my bike I think they are organic pads though . I have IceTech rotors that seem to work well but anything was going to be a step up from my old bike.

I’ve tried local shops, as well as online shops like JensonUSA or 365Cycles.

For brake pads specifically , I’ve found that ordering the house brand directly from Commencal is the cheapest, can’t tell the difference. The ones for my bike are $12 there, compared to $40 locally and ~$25 from one of the other online shops.

I like metallic pads since they work better under high-heat situations, when you need them most . They do squeak pretty badly when either cold or wet though.

metallics perform better but if you’re not in the mountains or riding some downhill, you may not notice or be able to take advantage of this performance. organic/nonmetallic pads are softer, generally provide better modulation, and tend to be much quieter.

i would mostly classify my riding as cross country. there are some small steep hill hills but i ride for a workout not just for leisure so the brakes do get a workout
